Ingredients:
Bottle gourd - 1
Toor dal - 1 and 1/2 cup
Garlic - 6 pods
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Ginger - 1/2 inch (or ginger garlic paste)
Turmeric - 1 tsp
Green chillies - 2
Red chillies - 2
Mustard, zeera for seasoning
Oil - 2 tbsp
Ghee (clarified butter) - 2 tsp
salt
Method:
- Wash, peel and cut bottle gourd into 1 inch length and 1/2 inch wide pieces or as per your wish.
- Wash toor dal once and pour 1:2 water in it.
- Pressure cook dal and gourd pieces separately.
- When they are done, heat oil in a pan and do the seasoning with mustard, zeera, red chillies, green chillies and curry leaves.
- Grind ginger and one garlic pod and add this to the above oil. Then immediately add the remaining garlic pods also.
- Saute them and then add turmeric.
- Add the pressure cooked bottle gourd pieces, the mashed dal and salt.
- Let it cook and boil until the raw smell of dal disappears.
- Finally add the ghee and stirr.
